Soft Circuit Workshop
ITP Summer 2008

note for final: 06.18.08
*This is my note from last week: i just realized now that i stupidly uploaded on my personal tumblr blog, but not on the class blog, just to complete everything.
i’m still going with the heating cape… was hoping to get sample from one of the companies that i contacted, but no reply, yet. actually one replied and said they can not send anything.

so, the main idea will be the same, to create heat and audio. for the audio part, i finally decided to use the recording module from radioshack (just like what jennifer used for her midterm glove). my problem is on the “creating” heat part… i talked to tom jenkins as he did something with heat last semester, as i have guessed it turns out he hacked a heating pad that he found on the junkshelf.
made some research on the internet and there are already some “heated” vest, socks or slippers, etc. mainly marketed for bikers and hikers. but the price for the vest are mostly $140 and above. don’t have enough money to buy it, plus if i buy it then there is no point making the project because it’s been done.
right now, i have a dry heating pad i bought at duane and read, but it needs to be plugged to a 120v AC power on the wall. that is not what i want, since i want the vest to be portable. other than that, i just ordered a battery powered sock and a “wire your own heat” kit that i found, it’s not battery operated and requires a 12v power from a car/bike power outlet, but it’s worth to try.
