My Technique Report is  on copper  particle conductivity  water based paint from Less EMF  which primary use is for RFI/EMI sheilding  for  plastic electronic equipment housing, wallboards, wood and claen metals.Yet I wanted to use this paint  on fabric  for my final project . Since I am using silk for my final project I decided to test on several pieces of silk  . What was nice about the silk is...

i ordered the LessEMF CuPro Conductive paint off of lessemf.com. While I did a couple lines on paper, and the paint worked excellent there, the paint on the fabric i had is not very reliable. the fabric was some kind of nylon or synthetic i believe, and not very porous. in addition, the paint chipped very very easily. when i could get it on, if i tried to do anything else to it such as put a...

Projects Similar to Mine
I thought of two projects that were similar to the Glow Fish.  During the 1980s, there was a toy called the Glo Worm. I’m sure that at the time, it was lit with incandescent sources.  It glowed when you squeezed it. In addition, Linda Melin’s project, “The Interactive Pillows,” is pretty similar to mine.  It even uses electroluminescent elements, though hers are EL wire...

Technique Report: Using Insulated Wire in Soft...
I came up with this method after having some failures in previous attempts to make soft circuits.  I wanted to use insulated wires, but I wanted to attach them to cloth.  My first attempt was using solid-core wire, which I bent into loops and twisted around itself after inserting it through a hole in the conductive cloth.  This worked fine, but solid-core wire is stiff and brittle, and the ends...

*This is my note from last week: i just realized now that i stupidly uploaded on my personal tumblr blog, but not on the class blog,  just to complete everything. i’m still going with the heating cape… was hoping to get sample from one of the companies that i contacted, but no reply, yet. actually one replied and said they can not send anything. so, the main idea will be the same,...

Technique Report: Conductive Epoxy
Based on my painful experience on sewing 30 LEDs onto a fabric (60 legs, to be exact), thus for my “technique report” i choose to play around with conductive epoxy with the thought i could replace LED connection with a dab of conductive epoxy rather than having to sew on each LED leg. The product i got is from less emf and it cost $24.95 for a pack. You will get two syringes one is...

Soft Switch using Velcro and Conductive Thread Items Needed: LED 3V Coin Cell Battery Conductive Thread Velrco As you see in the video the construction of this type switch is quite simple yet effective. Two things I learned in this attempt: 1.) The loop section of the velcro can be difficult since the thread gets caught in the loops. Just be aware of this and you should have no problems....

Techniques used in my final project
Soldering Surface Mount LEDs I have to admit, the prospect of soldering 60 SMD LEDs was daunting and a little scary. I was surprised to find that it did in fact get easier after the first 20 or so. Like knitting or neurosurgery, soldering LEDs requires a great deal of patience and a light touch. The two things I found most helpful were the narrow soldering iron tips and the handy wire holder for...

Adhering Wires to Magnets for Use as Electrical...
Using magnets as switches can provide many advantages.  Though Magnets can firmly hold contacts together, they are easily pulled apart and possibly stowed on alternate, non-electrical magnetic surfaces.  Magnets are relatively inexpensive fasteners for their strength, and Properly polarized magnets can automatically force proper connections (postive to positive, ground to ground).  Magnets are...

Some related projects
Here are some other wearable dance interfaces I’ve found. They are all very cool, but also very frustrating for the following reasons: 1) The technolgy is really bulky, using large components and always using wires instead of thread 2) These interfaces are part of a visual performance, but they are HIDEOUS. For all of them, it is as if they were entirely focused on function and just...

PpTie - Potential Final Project
The concept entails a hack of a presentation remote control and the embedding of the controls into a normal business tie. Additionally,  different strokes of the tie would trigger forward or backgrounds movement of the presentation. Final Project Idea and Related Projects
My final project is going to be a wall hanging that doubles as a lamp. It consists of 25 fabric squares with either 2 or 3 LEDs on each square. The idea is that when you have all the squares snapped together the light is very bright (or brighter than it was, I don’t know how bright they will be until I’m finished). If you would like it to be dimmer or you want to create some mood...

Schematic of final project - Glowfish
I’m going to be using 120VAC instead of a battery pack.  This is mostly because the surplus panels from Electronic Goldmine were too much of a bargain to pass up, and they’re 120VAC.  I guess it’s not so much of a toy anymore, so much as it is a “thing.”  Since I’m using insulated wire inside the fish instead of conductive thread, I’m going to crimp ring...

The LilyPad Arduino Reading
It’s amazing how technology these days is a more approachable skill that anyone can start researching, to create new things, and how technology have been mixed with the whole craft movement that’s been going on from a time now.  Reading how the Arduino LilyPad was introduced to children, just amazed me, because things as complex as circuits are, are made more approachable to people,...

My overall feelings about the show were quite mixed. I was excited to see some “real life” superhero costumes and as it turned out there actually weren’t that many of them. Final Project Proposal
For my final project, I was thinking about creating different types of interactions and feedback from a single object. Since I’ve worked with sound and light on my last project, I would...

Final Project Concept
After thinking up all kinds of lame ideas all day, I thought of this on the way home, and I kind of like it.  This is the Glowfish. It’s a musical (I hope!) toy.  Pressing on the stripes of the Glowfish turns the EL panels on.  I’d like them to stay on for a bit by adding some capacitors.  I’m hoping to find some buzzers that are tuned to specific notes, or to build some kind...
